Eastern Island is a Polynesian island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and it is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world. The nearest continental point lies in central Chile, 3,512 km (2,182 mi) away. Most of the island is part of Rapa Nui National Park, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, including its 887 stone statues called Moai.
Depending on the season, there are 1 or 2 flights per day from Santiago. The flight lasts 5:40 hrs and on the way back, 4:45 hrs. There is 1 weekly flight from Papeete (Tahiti) to Easter Island, and it lasts 5:45 hrs.
Time zone: UTC-6 (UTC-5 on summer), which means there is a 2 hour difference from continental Chile.
The only town on the island is Hanga Roa, with 5,000 inhabitants. The town features a supermarket, a pharmacy, stores, restaurants, a catholic church and the Rapa Nui Anthropological Museum.

CLIMATE
aster Island, on the Polynesian border, has pleasant subtropical weather. July and August are the coldest months, with an average temperature of 18ºC (64°F). February is the warmest month, with an average of 24ºC (75°F) Rainfall is uniformly distributed year round. However, the major precipitation concentration is in May.
